Findings from mapping work and quantitative analysis

Employment model

Paramedics are usually ARRS funded, working across several sites in a PCN.

e.g. limited sessions a week at each practice to see same day minor illness or specific conditions relevant to their expertise.

Qualifications

Paramedics may have some additional qualifications associated with their particular area of interest. Alternatively, they may be working towards or qualified to the level of Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) but some restrictions on the type of condition or patient they see are applied by the practices or the paramedic.

May or may not be prescribers.

Remit

Additional area of expertise related to interest. e.g. frailty clinics or asthma checks.

Paramedics in low integration sites carry out more home visits than in medium and high integration sites. Because of this, the unit costs of a consultation in low integration sites tend to be higher.
