Employment model

Often working at a single site as member of an interdisciplinary ‘urgent care team’ with clear exclusions depending on skills and experience. Often directly employed (may or may not be ARRS funded).

Qualifications

Paramedics may have some additional qualifications associated with their particular area of interest. Alternatively, they may be working towards or qualified to the level of Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) but some restrictions on the type of condition or patient they see are applied by the practices or the paramedic.

May or may not be prescribers.

Remit

Will take on additional duties e.g. dementia reviews, health checks other special interests.

May prescribe.

Supervised by ACPs.

Named GP providing supervision.

Paramedics in high integration sites, tend to carry out more remote consultations than those in medium and low integration sites. This may mean that they generate fewer prescriptions.
