Employment model

Paramedics may work across a small number of sites in a PCN or across different surgeries within a single practice. In some medium integration models, sites employ two or more paramedics that work differently. For example, one highly integrated paramedic may be directly employed and another PCN paramedic may work a limited number of sessions at the practice.

Qualifications

Paramedics may have limited or no additional qualifications (but may be planning on working towards them).

Not usually prescribers.

Remit

Manage same day urgent care with clear exclusions.

Paramedics in medium integration sites tend to carry out more home visits than those in high integration sites. In low complexity models, these will be routine home visits to deal with straightforward assessment and management.
