Effects on the workforce and infrastructure

Findings from qualitative investigation across 2 domains: workforce and infrastructure

It is not a good use of GP time to deal with straightforward cases. However, if paramedics see all the straightforward cases GPs workload will change to just managing complexity.

Regular supervision is needed (on a case-by-case basis and this is best provided ‘in house’).

Significant time is needed for the paramedic to adjust to general practice. With low integration models, paramedics may take (considerably) longer to acclimatise to general practice.

There may be perceptions that paramedics moving into GP means they are leaving the frontline ambulance service short.
