Findings from qualitative investigation across 2 domains: access and safety
Paramedics may manage same day minor illness and free up GP time to see more complex cases. There is a perception that this might improve access for patients, but we do not have empirical data to support this.
Paramedics are well placed to manage acute emergencies (e.g. chest pain).
Patients perceive that safety is improved if there are fewer problems with access.
